On Delay Performance of Throughput Optimal Back-pressure Routing: Testbed Results

چکیده
Maximizing network throughput via back-pressure routing is the subject of a considerable body of literature. It is well known that back-pressure routing induces long delays and this has motivated a number of proposals for improving the delay performance. However, to our knowledge, no useful results are available in the literature that characterize the delays induced by packet re-ordering which is due not only to the nature of back-pressure routing but also to the ubiquity of routing loops. Therefore in this paper we provide a systematic evaluation of basic back-pressure routing algorithm and two of its recently proposed variants on an experimental testbed. This provides the first direct comparison of delay performance. Our findings reveal that even in simple network topologies these algorithms induce extensive routing loops with associated high packet delay.

Behaviour of Maximum-Throughput Dynamic Routing in Loopy Networks⋆
Maximizing network throughput via back-pressure routing is the subject of a considerable body of literature. However, the associated optimal throughput guarantees come at the cost of excessively high delays. Though there exists some proposals in literature for improving the delay performance, the impact of these proposals on the delay performance is very little in loopy networks (i.e., networks...
متن کاملComparative Performance Analysis of AODV,DSR, TORA and OLSR Routing Protocols in MANET Using OPNET
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are receiving a significant interest and are becoming very popular in the world of wireless networks and telecommunication. MANETs consist of mobile nodes which can communicate with each other without any infrastructure or centralized administration. In MANETs, the movement of nodes is unpredictable and complex; thus making the routing of the packets challenging....
متن کاملFrequency-Based Relay Placement in Mobile Networks
Stationary relay nodes have the potential to boost routing efficiency in mobile networks at little additional cost. Unlike mesh nodes, relay nodes can be placed non-contiguously and require no wired infrastructure. However, ensuring that relay placement results in maximum performance is a challenging problem with concrete results being few. We explore the quality of a simple frequency-based pla...
متن کاملAn Efficient Shortest-Path Aided Back-Pressure Routing over Multihop Wireless Network
This project proposes a new optimal routing/scheduling back-pressure algorithm that not only guarantees network stability (throughput optimality), but also adaptively selects a set of optimal routes based on shortest-path information in order to minimize average path lengths between each source and destination pair. Our results indicate that under the traditional back-pressure algorithm, the en...

Today, the use of wireless and intelligent networks are widely used in many fields such as information technology and networking. There are several types of these networks that MPLS networks are one of these types. However, in MPLS networks there are issues and problems in the design and implementation discussion, for example security, throughput, losses, power consumption and so on. Basically,...
